Frame: You
can use Q-snaps or stretcher bars to frame projects that
are much wider than they are tall or much taller than they are
wide. Our special adapters let
you use Q-snaps or stretcher bars with the StitchMate. |
| Low-Swinging
Reclining Chairs: The
legs for the StitchMate require a height clearance of 1-1/2 inches. A few
recliner models may catch on or be blocked by the front leg of the
StitchMate when the chair's foot rest is elevated. A solution to this
problem is to raise the recliner slightly by placing a strip of wood
under the front edges of your chair's base, or your chair may have
adjustable feet that you can adjust, or you might be able
to use furniture cups/pads that are designed to go under chair and table legs. |
| Make
It All Bigger:
Can't clearly see your chart/pattern... Blow It Up! Use a
printer or scanner to magnify (zoom) the section you are working on
then print it out. Now you easily see that area of your project
that you are currently working on. |
| Frame
Your Chart/Pattern: If
you need to have your chart or pattern directly in front of you,
secure it to your fabric with magnets or pin or clip it
directly to your frame right next to your work. You can affix your chart or pattern
to your fabric or canvas or clip it (big clips) to your scoll rods. If
you need more room to see your work area, use a longer set of
rods. |
| Tighten
Up Your Stand: Check
all the knobs on your StitchMate occasionally to make
sure that they are all set properly. |
| Tighten
Up Your Fabric: After
pressing your fabric down into your first scroll rod with your lockbar,
flip your fabric over, do the second rod, and flip your fabric back
over. Make certain that a quarter-inch or more of your fabric
extends up beyond your scroll rods when you load your fabric.
Rotate your rods at least one quarter-turn so that your fabric wraps
back over the lockbar and the extended fabric. This ensures that
your fabric is properly locked into your scroll rods and is
particularly helpful with thinner material. |
| A
Light Touch Works Best: Many stitchers
push their hand into their fabric as they push their needle through
their fabric. This usually causes the fabric to stretch just a
bit and soon all those little stretches add up to an overall loose and
"puckered" fabric. The secret to keeping a tight
fabric tight is to make sure that only the needle and thread touch the
fabric and nothing else! |
| A
Better Fit For Your Magnifier or Light:
The mounting
post is that round part at the base of your lamp or magnifier that
fits into the mounting hole in your stand or clamp. If your post
fits too loosely in its hole, wrapping a piece of thin plastic around
about half or more of the post can solve your problem. The
plastic should be the height of the post and can be cut from a milk
carton, yogurt container, coffee can lid, or something similar. Place
the plastic down into the hole and then carefully push the post down
into the hole. Too tight a fit may not work well either; a
little looseness works best. |
